HON 298 – Special Topics: North Carolina Music

For one of my required Honors seminars, I produced a 15-minute podcast examining how Christian faith has shaped North Carolina’s country music and cultural identity. The project centered on artists such as Randy Travis, George Hamilton IV, and Scotty McCreery, and included a recorded interview with Tony Conway, longtime manager of Randy Travis.

Creating the podcast required conducting interview-based research, synthesizing historical context, and editing audio into a cohesive narrative. It strengthened my ability to ask thoughtful questions, navigate setbacks, and communicate cultural analysis through a creative medium.

Christian Country Music Research Presentation

This interdisciplinary project combined cultural analysis, historical research, and qualitative inquiry. It represents growth in research design beyond the laboratory and demonstrates my ability to explore complex topics through structured investigation. It also reflects intellectual curiosity and confidence in presenting personal yet academically grounded work.

This proposal outlines my research direction, interview strategy, and narrative structure for the podcast Faith and Fiddles. It demonstrates the intentional planning behind conducting qualitative research, developing interview questions, and structuring a cohesive cultural analysis. This artifact reflects growth in research design, strategic thinking, and professional communication prior to executing the final project.
